The Radcliffe Trust supported Gloucestershire Academy of Music in their 40th Anniversary year, to enable them to commission a new musical work for children and young people. ‘The Comet Stone’ by composer Jeff Moore was written and performed twice during the year and has been extremely well received by performers and audiences alike.
Jeff Moore says “Over the past nine years, I’ve forged a very fruitful relationship with the Gloucester Academy of Music, and particularly with their annual Big String project. Their concept of bringing all ages and levels of young string players together as a huge ensemble perfectly matches the all-inclusive beginners-to-professionals music that I write. I feel strongly that younger musicians learn most by playing alongside their more experienced colleagues”.
The grant was visionary and made a huge difference to the 40th Anniversary celebrations.
