Hand Engravers Association of Great Britain

The grant given to the Hand Engravers Association of Great Britain by the Radcliffe Trust was critical to a brand new course ‘Technical Skills Training – Seal Engraving’ being created. The grant enabled a second funder to release funds (who had stipulated that they would not be able to fund the project as a whole). There were no courses in seal engraving in the UK prior to this and therefore the entire course content, format and even sourcing tutors and demonstrators had to be created from a blank slate. The course in seal engraving enabled eight students who already had some experience of engraving to benefit from expert tuition from an elite cohort of seal engravers. The aim was to develop their skills and ensure the knowledge is passed on and not lost.
The Hand Engravers Association of Great Britain stated:- The project has had a huge positive impact on the trade of hand engraving and the individuals involved.
